Foundation & Access Programmes
Access and foundation courses are your
passport to a degree course in the UK.
These courses act as a bridge between your
current qualifications and what you need to
study for a degree, and will give you all
the skills and confidence you need to move
smoothly up the academic ladder.
Some 58,000 students in the UK are currently
studying on access courses and these
programmes are now clearly
recognized and
accepted as a route into degree-level study
in the UK.
It doesn't matter if you don't have the
traditional qualifications. What really
counts is your ability and determination to
succeed. Many of these courses are run by
institutions that also offer degrees or have
links with universities and colleges that do
and, in some instances, you'll be guaranteed
a place there if you complete your studies
successfully. Access courses are designed to
be highly flexible.
For
some subject areas, you will need to have
your English language skills or mathematical
skills assessed. If English is not your first
language, most courses will provide English
language support to help you with your
studies.
The majority of students complete their
access courses within one or two years but
this is flexible as well. Access and
foundation courses are a good way to find
out whether degree study is for you and what
you think of the routine, the people and the
atmosphere of UK educational institutions.
Friendly support is one thing you won't be
short of while studying on your access or
foundation course. Tutors take a close
interest in their students and your tutor will be
dedicated to helping you succeed.
And because group work is a strong element
of these courses, you'll be studying as part
of a real team - helping each other to learn
while developing what often turn out to be
life-long friendships. No matter, which
subject you choose, you will learn some
important skills such as computer and study
skills, leading to greater self-development.
To support your studies, you will have
access to well-equipped resource centres and
you will receive advice on the next step in
making your application to university.
Whatever your goals for the future, choosing
a UK access or foundation course will take
you closer to achieving them.
